About this performance
Overview
John Cazale as Sal in Dog Day Afternoon (1975) gives raters a clear craft target inside the film. On ActorRating, this page is about the acting — not a verdict on the movie as a whole.
Why the score looks this way
The radar lean is clearest in Screen Presence and Technical Skill, where raters tend to reward the performance most consistently. Relative soft spots show up around Emotional Range & Depth and Chemistry & Interaction, which is where disagreement often concentrates. Breakdown: Emotional Range & Depth 8.6; Character Believability 8.7; Technical Skill 8.8; Screen Presence 9.2; Chemistry & Interaction 8.6. Use those axes to decide whether the work impresses you for emotional range, believability, technique, screen presence, or chemistry.
Community consensus
Only 1 community rating has landed so far, so treat the average as an early read rather than a locked verdict. The headline community average is 8.8/10 across Emotional Range & Depth, Character Believability, Technical Skill, Screen Presence, and Chemistry & Interaction. If your rating diverges from the pack, the dimension sliders are the best way to show where you part company.
Notable craft moments
Without spoiling story turns, watch for craft tells: how John Cazale uses stillness versus push, how dialogue lands under pressure, and whether the character feels inhabited even in quiet beats. Given the current radar emphasis on Screen Presence and Technical Skill, prioritize scenes (or stretches of scenes) where that quality is most exposed — not plot shock, but delivery, physical choice, and listening.
