Name the job
Brad Pitt's work as Jesse James in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford (2007) is a lead assignment on the billing card. The acting question is whether they solved the job the screenplay actually gave them — not the job the marketing wanted.
Lead craft checks
- Does Brad Pitt carry silence without asking for pity?
- Where does the film lean on charisma instead of choice?
- Does the turn survive a second watch without plot surprise?
Keep cards separate
Do not average this turn with other performances from the same actor or the same franchise month. Two assignments, two scorecards.
Score it
Brad Pitt in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford — five criteria, one role, one film.
Score it on the five criteria
- Emotional Range & Depth — what feeling survives past the trailer?
- Character Believability — did you forget the actor, or only the brand?
- Performance Quality — voice, body, timing: name one precise choice.
- Screen Presence — who held the room when the plot stopped helping?
- Chemistry & Interaction — who changed someone else's temperature?
If you cannot answer at least two bullets with a scene, your score is still a draft.
Quick-rate once if you must, then break it down after one quiet scene. Edit later only if a concrete beat changed your mind — not if the timeline did.
